THE BONELESS GUIDES
How to clean a boneless couch
Start with the care label. Removable covers and washable covers are not the same thing.
Identify what can be cleaned separately
Find the care label and instructions for both covers and cushions. A zipper may provide manufacturing access rather than permission to remove or wash a cover. Ask the seller if the instructions are incomplete.
Before choosing a couch, consider what happens after a spill. For pets or frequent guests, clear care information and replacement-cover availability may be more useful than an unsupported easy-clean claim.
For spills and stains
Follow the fabric-specific directions, including any spot-test requirement. Do not substitute a steam cleaner, solvent or bleach unless it is explicitly approved. Avoid soaking foam that is not designed for wet cleaning.
If the instructions recommend professional cleaning, give the cleaner the material and care information instead of guessing the fabric type.
Before putting covers back
Observe the specified drying method and make sure parts are fully dry as instructed. Incorrect washing or drying can affect fit. Keep a copy of the care label so it remains available if the tag becomes unreadable.
- Confirm removal is permitted.
- Follow the stated wash or professional-cleaning method.
- Use the specified drying method.
- Do not treat foam as machine-washable without explicit instructions.
