LAYOUT GUIDE

Small boneless couches for apartments

A compact sofa should fit the room when expanded—and fit the way you actually sit.

For a small apartment, bedroom or dorm, start with the available floor area and usable seat dimensions. A two-seater or loveseat label is not a standard size.

Map your daily routes

Tape out the proposed footprint and walk around it. Try opening drawers and doors, moving a desk chair and getting to the window. Think about a guest’s route through the room as well as your own.

A low profile can feel visually unobtrusive while still taking up significant floor space. Compare depth and arm width, not only the height shown in lifestyle photos.

Delivery is only the first move

Check the box dimensions against stair turns, doors and elevator openings. Then consider the expanded size for moving out later. Compression for factory shipping does not guarantee easy recompression at home.

Decide what earns its space

A folding sleeper might add useful guest space. A deep chaise might be your favorite place to read. Choose the function you will actually use instead of collecting features.

  • Usable seat width for one or two people.
  • Floor clearance around furniture.
  • Expanded size and box weight.
  • Places to store spare cushions or bedding.
