LAYOUT GUIDE

U-shaped boneless couches

Two returns create a generous lounge area—and a footprint worth measuring carefully.

A U-shaped sofa is worth considering when the room can accommodate both returns without closing off access. Count usable seats, not just the number of modules.

Leave room to enter the seating area

Measure the opening between the returns and the distance to the coffee table. A large sofa can provide plenty of seating while making the center of the room awkward to reach.

Consider doors, radiators, outlets and curtains before allocating the full wall to a couch. Use the smallest clear room measurement, not the longest uninterrupted wall.

Check the corner seats

A corner is not always a comfortable independent seat. If you host regularly, think about where each person would sit with enough space for their feet. Two chaises may suit lounging better than upright seating for a group.

Plan delivery and future changes

Record how many boxes arrive, how the modules connect, and whether the layout can be divided. Keep the manufacturer’s configuration instructions for a later move.

  • Overall width plus depth of both returns.
  • Clear opening and access around the sofa.
  • Individual module sizes and weights.
  • Compatibility of replacement or additional sections.
